When NPLQ appears on the pool timetable a section (usually one lane) of the pool will be closed to the public. This course is the RLSS/IQL/ISRM National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, Units 1 & 2 (includes Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate and Site Specific module).

The course includes the following, how to:

- work effectively as part of a lifeguard team,
- maintain observation and supervision of a pool and users and communicate effectively
- affect a prompt rescue using emergency equipment available
- enter the water safely and recover and land a pool user who is in difficulty
- perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on adults, children and babies using resuscitation equipment
- provide emergency first aid, and how to deal with a spinal cord injury in the water on land with the use of specialist equipment

For swimmers aged 16 years+ before the Exam date of the course.Candidates should be:
fit and healthy, completely confident in deep water, able to swim 50 metres in under one minute,able to swim 100 metres on the front and back without pausing and able to surface dive from the surface to a depth of 2 metres.
