FAQ

Q: Why do I need an induction, I've used gyms before?
A: By showing you how our equipment should be used properly you will get the most from your workout and minimise the risk of injury.

Q: I have a medical condition. Am I still ok to use the gym?
A: Exercise is beneficial to the vast majority of people if begun slowly and built up gradually, but it is sensible to check with your GP first. Your GP may advise that you access the gym through the Active Start Programme so that specialist qualified instructors will help you make sure you exercise appropriately and safely.

Q: I've never exercised before. I'll look out of place in the gym, won't I?
A: Everyone starts off slowly at first. Just build up slowly as your confidence grows. Staff are always happy to advise you, especially as you get used to the equipment.

Q: I'm not technically minded and the equipment all looks complicated. Is it easy to use?
A: Most machines have a quick start button that allows you to use the machine without having to remember all of the settings.

Q:Will there be someone on hand to answer my questions?
A: There is usually a fitness instructor on duty who is usually found in the studio. If the instructor is busy just ask the Duty Manager.

Q: What do I wear in the studio?
A: Make sure you wear comfortable clothing such as a T-shirt with shorts or joggers, and trainers. It is also a good idea to bring some water in a refillable, plastic, lidded container.

Q: Will someone write me an exercise programme?
A: The induction is often carried out in small groups so the instructors will not be able to write an individual programme for you at this time. If you would like this service please book in for an assessment, where an instructor will assess your fitness level, discuss your aims and write a programme for you to help you to reach your goals. This is free if you take out an Ultra Zest or Gym Zest Membership.

Q: When are the busiest times in the gym?
A: Weekdays, around 5.00 - 7.30pm

Q: I am pregnant and want to keep fit. Is it ok to use the gym?
A: If you are used to exercising and using the gym prior to becoming pregnant then it is usually fine to keep exercising but check with your midwife and GP. If you do not use the gym then it is not asvisable to start whilst you are pregnant.

Q: Do I need to bring any specialist equipment to any of the fitness classes?
A: All equipment such as mats, weights, bands, steps etc are provided.

Q: If I arrive a bit late for a class can I still go in?
A: For your own safety you will not be permitted to enter if the instructor has already started as you will not have warmed up properly. It is also disruptive for other customers to have people coming in part way through a class.

Q: If I have a medical condition or feel a little under the weather can I still attend my class?
A: Check with your GP if your choice of class is suitable for your condition(s). Always inform the instructor who can then modify any exercises for you if necessary. If you have a temeprature we advise you not to exercise.
