Teen Gym

Teen Gym sessions enable children from the age of 11 years to use the fitness studio in a safe, supervised environment, under the guidance of qualified fitness Instructors. There will always be one instructor present, but may be two, depending upon numbers attending. Sessions are for one hour and need to be booked at reception as spaces are limited. The fitness studio remains open to the general public at these times. Visit the homepage for your choice of leisure centre to view the relevant fitness studio timetable.

Teen Gym sessions are at set times and cost £3.50 per session for non members. Children are encouraged to follow balanced programmes using a variety of equipment including the resistance machines and cardio vascular equipment. It would not be advisable, for instance to just spend the hour using the weights.

How to Join Teen Gym

Prior to using the fitness studio, participants must attend a Teen Gym Induction session, bookable at reception. During the induction, children learn all they need to know about using the equipment safely and effectively, as well as the importance of effectively warming up and cooling down. They may also have the chance to have a go on the equipment. The induction session costs £3.50, lasts for about an hour and is a very important introduction to using the fitness equipment.

Before the induction session, a health questionnaire must be completed which needs to be signed by a parent or legal guardian. It is essential that the instructor is made aware of any health conditions that may affect the child, and in serious cases, consent may be required from the Doctor before the child can attend.

On completion of the induction session the child will receive a Teen Gym Gym registration Zest Card. This can be used to book the sessions. Booking is strongly advised as spaces are limited and we don't like to turn people away!

Personalised Programmes

Personalised programmes can be written and we would strongly recommend this so that the most benefit is obtained from attending the sessions. Just ask the instructor at the first session and this will be organised for you.

It is then possible for the child to attend the fitness studio with a parent or legal guardian if it is more convenient than attending the set times for Teen Gym. The parent will need to attend their own fitness induction session if they are not already an authorised Fitness Studio User. They will need to sign a declaration that they are fully responsible for their child during their time in the studio and will need to attend every time the young person comes in, unless they attend the organised Teen Gym Sessions.
