Stage 5

1.    PREFORM A HORIZONTAL STATIONARY SCULL ON THE BACK.
Body position must be stretched out on the surface of the water, hands flat (facing the pool bottom) during the sculling figure of 8 sculling movements must be demonstrated, toes pointed and legs together. Arms remain in the water throughout.

2.    PREFORM A FEET FIRST SCULLING ACTION FOR 5 METRES WHILST HORIZONTAL ON THE BACK
Body must be stretched out and fingers angled downward whilst performing figure of 8 sculling movements, legs together and toes pointed. Arms remain in the water throughout.

3.    PREFORM A SCULLING SEQUENCE WITH A PARTNER FOR 30-45 SECONDS TO INCLUDE A ROTATION
There must be directional changes and inclusion of any rotation, for example a log roll, and flip and a turn etc.  This might be demonstrated via games such as follow my leader, mirroring each other and making patterns.

4.    TREAD WATER FOR 30 SECONDS
The body must be upright, with head clear of the water. Movement made must be stress free with a degree of calmness.  The swimmer may use a variety of kicks to include scissor, running type action, breaststroke kick and eggbeater kick. Hands must remain underwater.

5.    PREFORM 3 DIFFERENT SHAPED JUMPS INTO DEEP WATER.
This must be from a 2 footed take off and the jump to be upwards and outwards. The head remains up and eyes forward.  The entry must be feet first. Jumps could show symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes e.g star, pencil, one arm up one arm down.

6.    SWIM 10 METRES BACKSTROKE
The 10 metres Backstroke must be performed to the expected standard as described by the ASA in the NPTS resources.

7.    SWIM 10 METRES FRONT CRAWL FACE IN THE WATER
The 10 metres Front Crawl must be preformed to the expected standard as described by the ASA in the NPTS resources.

8.    SWIM 10 METRES BREASTSTROKE
The 10 metres Breaststroke must be preformed to the expected standard as described by the ASA in the NPTS resources.

9.    SWIM 10 METRES BUTTERFLY
The 10 metres Butterfly must be preformed to the expected standard as described by the ASA in the NPTS resources.

10.    PREFORM A HANDSTAND AND HOLD FOR A MINIMUM OF 3 SECONDS
Starting position may be from standing or from a push and glide in deeper water.  The action could be suspended in deep water or hands on the pool bottom in shallow water. Body must be vertical and extended with legs together and toes pointed, arms extended.

11.    PREFORM A FORWARD SOMERSAULT, TUCKED, IN THE WATER.
Starting position may be from a swim or a push and glide into…smooth roll in a controlled manner facing the direction you are heading.  Maintaining a tucked shape, head to knees, pull and tuck into a ball and scull to rotate fully. Finishing position may be various e.g standing, horizontal float on front.

12.    DEMONSTRATE AN ACTION FOR GETTING HELP.
Participant is in the water treading water to stay afloat.  They must wave one arm above the head whilst shouting for help.  Participant must appear at ease in performing this activity.
