FAQ

Q: When should I put my child on a waiting list?
A: As soon as you want to, even if they are too young to start the lesson in question at the time. Your child's name will gradually rise to the top of the waiting list if it is there for some time. We will not remove the name unless you ask us to, unless they are given a place on a course.

Q: What should my child wear for lessons?
A: Close fitting, one piece costumes are ideal. Bermuda shorts are not permitted. Long hair should be tied back, a swimming hat is preferred.

Q: My child wears nappies. What do I use in the pool?
A: Swimming nappies are sold at reception. It is also possible to buy baby trunks/costumes that are re-usable, for this purpose from well known retailers.

Q: Can I take my child onto poolside for the lesson?
A: Yes you may, but outdoor footwear must be removed first.

Q: My child is very nervous and I am concerned he/she will not want to leave me.
A: We understand that children can find lessons a little daunting at first. If you need to, you may sit poolside beside the learner pool if that will comfort your child, until he/she is happy for you to sit in the viewing area instead.

Q: Does my child need swimming goggles?
A: Children do not need goggles and they are encouraged to be happy in the water without them from an early age. If however, your child swims more confidently and happily in goggles they may wear them. Please make sure that they are properly adjusted prior to the lesson commencing as the swimming teacher will not have the time to do this for the children, or want to risk not adjusting them properly.

Q: Can I pop to the shops whilst my child is swimming?
A: Children under the age of 8 must not be left unaccompanied in the leisure centre at any time.

Q: If my child is ill, can I get a refund for any missed lessons?
A: There are no refunds for missed lessons. If your child is undergoing planned treatment that prevents them from swimming for a while, please speak to reception.

Q: If I want to take my child out of lessons for a while, what happens to their place?
A: We will place your child on the Priority Waiting List for available spaces in the future, which takes priority over the standard waiting list for new students. There will be no part refunds unless your child's space can be re-booked. (This is more likely nearer to the beginning of a course)

Q: What happens if I am away for assessment week?
A: The class teacher will have been making an ongoing assessment of your child's ability and will have a good idea already as to which stage they have reached. If there are any queries, your teacher will contact you.

Q: What happens if I am away for Priority Booking Week?
A: Just leave an envelope at reception with the full details of the student and lesson required along with full payment, and we will re-book your place for you. Don't forget to collect your receipt, that gives you the course dates and exceptions (if there are any) on your return. This will be kept at reception.

Q: What happens if I am away for Transfer Week?
A: Please leave an envelope giving full details of the student and three choices of lesson along with full payment and we will do our best to fulfil your requirements. A contact number may also be useful, if you'd prefer we call you before booking. Don't forget to ask at reception on your return which lesson has been booked and to collect your receipt.

Q:What happens if I am changing class and there is no space in the next stage or preferred lesson?
A: If there is no available or suitable space in the lesson you require, the student will be placed on the Prioirity Waiting List for the next course.

Q: I need to cancel my One 2one lesson. How do I do this?
A: If the instructor has given you their number, please call them. Otherwise please contact the leisure centre giving as much notice as possible and we will contact the instructor for you. Please note that you may be charged if the instructor has a wasted journey, or you failed to attend your booking with no notice given.

Q: Which class is my child booked into?
A: Please retain your receipt as this gives you that information, along with course dates and exception dates if there are any.

Q:Where can I find out further information?
A: The leisure centre swimming lesson noticeboard will have lots of information on, and if you can't find what you are looking for on this website, please click here to email us about anything we have not covered and we will endeavour to add it.
