FAQ
Q: What should my child wear for lessons?
A: Close fitting, one piece costumes are ideal. Bermuda shorts are not permitted. Long hair should be tied back, a swimming hat is preferred.
Q: My child wears nappies. What do I use in the pool?
A: Swimming nappies are sold at reception. It is also possible to buy baby trunks/costumes that are re-usable, for this purpose from well known retailers.
Q: Can I take my child onto poolside for the lesson?
A: Yes you may, but outdoor footwear must be removed first.
Q: My child is very nervous and I am concerned he/she will not want to leave me.
A: We understand that children can find lessons a little daunting at first. If you need to, you may sit poolside beside the learner pool if that will comfort your child, until he/she is happy for you to sit in the viewing area instead.
Q: Does my child need swimming goggles?
A: Children do not need goggles and they are encouraged to be happy in the water without them from an early age. If however, your child swims more confidently and happily in goggles they may wear them. Please make sure that they are properly adjusted prior to the lesson commencing as the swimming teacher will not have the time to do this for the children, or want to risk not adjusting them properly.
Q: Can I pop to the shops whilst my child is swimming?
A: Children under the age of 8 must not be left unaccompanied in the leisure centre at any time. We would advise all parents/guardians to remain in the centre.
Q: If my child is ill, can I get a refund for any missed lessons?
A: There are no refunds for missed lessons. If your child is undergoing planned treatment that prevents them from swimming for a while, please speak to reception.
Q: If I want to take my child out of lessons for a while, what happens to their place?
A: We cannot guarantee that the space will be available when you wish to return to lessons, however there are usually spaces available in a many levels all the time as children are continually being assessed and moved between levels.
Q:What happens if I am changing class and there is no space in the next stage or preferred lesson?
A: If there is no available or suitable space in the lesson you require, the student will be able to continue in their present class.
Q: I need to cancel my One 2one lesson. How do I do this?
A: If the instructor has given you their number, please call them. Otherwise please contact the leisure centre giving as much notice as possible and we will contact the instructor for you. Please note that you may be charged if the instructor has a wasted journey, or you failed to attend your booking with no notice given.
Q: Which class is my child booked into?
A: We can check for you, but please remember reception is very busy at peak times, so please call during the daytime when it is quieter.
Q:Where can I find out further information?
A: The leisure centre swimming lesson noticeboard will have lots of information on, and if you can't find what you are looking for on this website, please click here to email us about anything we have not covered and we will add it.
